| Financial services is a highly competitive environment, historically dominated by a combination of publicaly listed corporates and long established mutuals, commonly with substantial balance sheets. Increased customer and product segmentation, particularly focused on the ‘non standard’ market, has created and highlighted the opportunity for new entrants - often smaller, nimble businesses with more limited balance sheets, higher levels of customer focus and competitive advantage through IT investment and internet based delivery platforms. The proliferation of offerings, a drive to focus on core business and an increase in regulation has also accelerated the outsourcing of both administration and customer support functions and created many rapidly growing corporates making use of scale, operational efficiency and IT. Gresham is focused on investments in sub-sectors including: insurance (retail and Lloyds/Corporate); lending (consumer and corporate); and fund management.
