Financial Services

Out of market turbulence will come many successful new ventures.

The turbulence in financial markets as a result of the credit crunch has only underlined the UK economy's dependence on financial services which contributes £70bn to the UK's national output.

Small to medium sized businesses with strong reputations will be able to grow quickly and capture market share while the large banks and insurers re-focus on core operations.

Businesses that offer specialist, niche services are likely to be in high demand as the larger corporates seek to outsource and reduce their fixed cost bases.

Disposals by the larger players seeking to realise cash today will also provide interesting opportunities for investors and an increase in regulation should help to drive consolidation, as smaller businesses are less able to finance the additional costs associated with compliance.

At Gresham we search for investment opportunities in businesses across a range of sub-sectors including: insurance broking; support services to the insurance industry and wealth management. In particular, we look for businesses pursuing acquisition strategies, or providing specialist or outsourced services to the financial services industry.
