DML buys military logistics company from Gresham Trust

DML, owner of Devonport Royal Dockyard, has acquired the UK's largest independent military logistics consultancy company, LSC Group, based in Tamworth, Staffordshire.

LSC employs approximately 200 people and has a successful track record in complex asset management, logistics, and information management solutions primarily focused on the defence sector across all three armed services.

DML has bought LSC from its management team (all of whom are continuing with the business) and UK private equity house, Gresham Trust.

The acquisition is an important strategic move for DML as part of the company's continued growth towards a wider role in contractor logistic support for the Ministry of Defence. In a series of structured steps over the last three years DML has taken on an increasing range of services alongside its traditional maintenance and modernisation work on major warship and submarine platforms.

Dennis Gilbert, DML's Chief Executive, said "This enhances DML's capabilities in areas that are increasingly important for DML in today's marketplace, as MoD continues to transfer more responsibility for the in-service support of its major defence assets to industry. It is excellent news for us, with significant synergies that markedly improve DML's strategic positioning."

LSC will continue to operate from Tamworth with staff deployed around the UK at customer's sites, as at present. In addition to supporting DML's business development goals it will also continue to develop and execute work for its existing client base which includes air and land as well as sea systems plus a growing commercial customer base.

"This is an exciting move for both parties," commented LSC's Chief Executive and Managing Director Martin Palmer. "We know DML well and are looking forward to developing our team's overall capabilities as we implement the business plan which we have developed jointly as part of the acquisition process."
