Investment Overview
Cooltrader was a discount frozen food retailer primarily based in the North West of England. Founded in March 2001, the company had 11 stores when Gresham invested in June 2004.
Why we liked it
A key attraction of the business was the opportunity to back a strong management team to create value in a retail niche they knew intimately having build up the Iceland chain.
How did we help?
Gresham provided the capital to support management in their rollout programme. This included the acquisition of Poundfreeze, and eight site Midlands based chain in October 2004 taking the estate to 20 stores.
Result
In 2005, Cooltrader was acquired by a trade business.
